Below are highlights of selected scientific agencies’ FY15 budget requests. Note that requested funds for the Opportunity Growth and Security Initiative are not included in the information provided below, as that funding is in addition to the agency FY15 requests.

National Science Foundation (NSF)

  • NSF has three priority goals for FY 2015 that reflect leadership’s top implementation-focused performance improvement priorities: (1) Ensure Public Access to Publications, (2) Increase the Nation’s Data Science Capacity and (3) Optimize the Award Process to Level Workload.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

  • Though the NASA budget sees a slight decrease from FY14, the proposed budget supports some exciting priorities for advancing space science including continued support for the International Space Station to at least 2024 and to send humans to an asteroid by 2025.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

  • NOAA’s proposed budget proposal prioritizes (1) Investments in mission critical infrastructure, (2) Providing services to enhance community resilience and (3) Strengthening scientific and programmatic innovation

United States Geological Survey (USGS)

  • The USGS budget prioritizes funding in Climate and Land Use Change in an effort to bolster adaptive natural resource and land management on landscape scales and advance the implementation of the President’s Climate Action Plan

Department of Energy (DOE)

  • The DOE budget proposal calls for the reorganization of the department into three Under Secretariats: Science and Energy, Nuclear Security, and Management and Performance.
