AGU Science Policy Alert 14-12
AGU is in the process of revising its data accessibility and preservation position statement.
A panel of AGU members was assembled to review and update the current statement on data accessibility and preservation for Board consideration in early 2015. Read the draft statement.
As an AGU member, you have an opportunity to provide comments to the panel on this draft. Comments should be submitted via the online form.
AGU’s position statement on data was originally adopted in 1997; reaffirmed in 2001, 2005, and 2006; and revised and reaffirmed in 2009 and 2012. The 2012 revisions were limited to the addition of an italicized summary paragraph after the statement title, such as was included on all AGU position statements. The 2014 panel was charged with rewriting the statement to reflect scientific, technological, and societal advances and needs regarding data availability, organization, and preservation, while also addressing the responsibilities for achieving the aforementioned needs.
The deadline for comments is 21 November 2014.
AGU position statements relate the understanding and application of the Earth and space sciences to relevant public policy.
