AGU Science Policy Alert 15-11
This week, the U.S. Senate will be voting on legislation to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, otherwise known as No Child Left Behind.
The new Senate bill— – the Every Child Achieves Act (S.1177)— – is a comprehensive and bipartisan bill that includes a significant focus on improving learning in the critical science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects. Specifically, the bill includes a hard-won provision, adopted by a close vote during committee consideration, that would provide every state with dedicated funding to support a wide range of STEM education activities, including professional development and hands- on learning.
All senators need to hear from you about the importance of STEM education as a national priority, so that the final bill passed by the Senate retains this important focus.
