AGU Science Policy Alert 12-15
The public comment period has been extended until 28 March 2012 on the draft National Ocean Policy Implementation Plan.
The National Ocean Council released a draft Implementation Plan which moves the Federal government forward in a strategic manner to address some of the most pressing challenges and overlapping issues facing the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes. Our marine environment is vital to our nation’s economy and security as well as a source of national pride. Human uses of these regions are expanding at a rate that challenges our ability to manage significant and often competing demands, while the health of these ecosystems is rapidly deteriorating. The National Ocean Policy and the draft Implementation Plan provide our nation with priorities for action to ensure we sustainably manage and protect our oceans, coasts, and Great Lakes for current and future generations.
AGU encourages our scientific community to engage with policy makers and take advantage of opportunities to provide input for science-based decision making. Specific comments on the document are welcomed by the National Ocean Council. Interested in some of the comments received?
