District Days Are Here

The time has come! Throughout the month of August, members of Congress will be back in their home states and districts meeting with constituents. Now is the perfect opportunity for you to schedule a meeting with your legislator, and AGU has all the tools you need to make it happen! Check out our District Days website for resources, sample meeting requests, and tips for a successful meeting. Still need some inspiration? Check out The Bridge each week as we highlight an AGU scientist who has stood up science by engaging with Congress.

August is also a great time to host a #scienceisessential postcard party!

Send your members of Congress a postcard reminding them why science is essential for your community. Download a postcard or request a bulk order of postcards from

Senate Spending Bills – the Good and the Bad

The Senate Appropriations Committee has completed action on the bills that set spending levels for NASA, NOAA, NSF, and the Department of Energy. While funding levels were higher than those outlined in the House bills, many science agencies would still see cuts under the Senate plan. Read more about each agency’s fiscal year 2018 outlook on The Bridge blog.

Unlike the President’s budget request, which is merely a recommendation, the bills being considered in the House and Senate could become law. But it’s not too late, the House and Senate have not passed the bills and will need to reconcile any differences before sending them to the President’s desk. Write your legislators today and urge them to support robust funding for our science agencies.

We’re looking for a Fall Science Policy Intern

There’s still time to apply for Geosciences Congressional Visits Day (Geo-CVD)

Join other Earth and space scientists this fall to discuss supporting federally-funded geoscience research with your legislators. Participants will attend a half-day workshop on 12 September 2017 and meet with legislators on 13 September. Application deadline: Friday, 11 August!
